The Survivor Tree

This last spring, we visited the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, and I loved seeing the Survivor Tree in full bloom. ![]()
The Survivor Tree is a living symbol of hope, resilience, survival, and the ability to endure unimaginable loss…and then rebuild.
A Callery pear tree, it was discovered amid the rubble of Ground Zero in October 2001—alive, but severely damaged, charred, and battered. It was rescued, nursed back to health in the Bronx, and eventually grew from just 8 feet to 30 feet tall, blooming again.
In 2010, it was returned to Ground Zero and replanted at the 9/11 Memorial.
Mark and I felt especially drawn to its story because we understand something about being broken, rebuilding, and finding new life after difficult seasons. Our journey, and finding each other, has been part of the beautiful rebirth and growth in both of our lives.
I’m incredibly grateful for the people, experiences, and little miracles God has placed along our paths. Each one giving us faith and confidence that we can rise from the ashes stronger, wiser, and more whole.
Mark is one of those many miracles that reminds me every day that God sees me, knows me, and is always working in ways I may not yet understand.
And today, I am especially grateful to be an American. ![]()
