Book Club: “Considering the Cross”

My April Book Club recommendation is “Considering the Cross” by John Hilton III.
This book examines how the cross, while a symbol of suffering, also represents God’s love, atonement, and a path to redemption. It challenges us to consider the cross in a new way, appreciating its centrality in the Savior’s atoning sacrifice and its relevance to our own lives. The crucifixion of Jesus is a core aspect of His atoning sacrifice, alongside the events in Gethsemane.
I love how this book highlights the depth of God’s love for humanity, as demonstrated by the Son’s sacrifice on the cross. It explores how the Savior’s crucifixion provides a means of forgiveness, redemption, and the possibility of spiritual growth.
I love the idea of ”Freewill Offering.” Nobody made Jesus sacrifice for me. He did it because he wanted to. “When we choose to see our sacrifices as voluntary or freewill offerings, our hearts soften and the service becomes more joyful. We also become more like the Savior as we emulator the one who freely give(s) of us all things.”
I love the emphasis with the Savior’s perfect love, willingness to suffer, and the burdens he bore to lighten the loads of others.
I have visited many churches and cathedrals in my life and I am often in awe of the beauty in each of them with their outward expression of Christ.
I wear jewelry that often has meaning for me. I love my bracelet that has a cross on it because of its significance to me and Christ in my life. I love that we recently got to celebrate Holy Week and all the bets that took place.
How has Christ had an impact on your life? What do you do to remember Him?
