“Broken For Us”
This is my new favorite depiction of Christ “Broken For Us” by @paigepayne_creations.
A dear friend gave me a Kintsugi bowl shortly after my D-day that is displayed on my mantle and continues to be a symbol of hope and healing.
Paige Payne describes so beautifully about her painting I wanted to share it with you.
“Kintsugi (金継ぎ, “golden joinery”). Using this special technique, broken pottery is fixed using a gold lacquer, which reattaches the pieces together and makes it whole again.
The purpose of this technique is to honor and highlight the history of the piece. It treats the breakage the piece has endured as something of beauty.
For a long time I have wanted to incorporate Kintsugi into one of my religious pieces. After all, no one in the history of the world was more shattered and broken than our Savior. Our Savior who was broken for us. Who endured all of our individual pain and trials, the difficulties and sorrow of every single person who ever lived. When I see the golden lines on this piece, I see each of us.
Christ was our perfect example in everything, and I think that includes being broken and being healed. In this piece, you can see that all of the lines stem from Christ’s (abstract) heart. I know that He knows each of us perfectly and knows what we are going through.”
I love knowing my Savior knows me exactly. I love that in my darkest moments I was numb to feeling yet I knew He was there. I have been carried and protected. I have been comforted and understood. I have been given strength when I was weak and hope when there was so much doubt.
When have you felt Christ in your life? Let me offer hope in your journey.
