My March Book Club recommendation is “Building True Intimacy” by Dan Drake, Joanna Raabsmith and Matthew Raabsmith.

The intimacy pyramid was first introduced to me in the process of healing. The building blocks explained make so much sense to me in how to go from surviving to thriving in a relationship.

🔺Honesty is a regular practice of transparency with self and others. “…it must be something consistent and frequent that we and others can depend on.”

🔺Safety is a sense of relational security created by ongoing constructive behavior demonstrated consistently over time. It is the only way to ensure we build on the foundation we have secured with honesty.

🔺 Trust is a confident conviction that our partner says and does things that are for us and our relationship. Trust matters because it allows us to be our whole selves.

🔺 Vulnerability is an act of giving of ourselves that opens us up to the possibility of a deeper connection in partnership.

🔺 Intimacy is a sustained and life-giving unity that leads to mutual flourishing. This matters because it helps to heal the pain, insecurity, and shame that we often

experience in the course of our life. Intimacy includes physical, emotional and spiritual aspects.

“This book introduces a model for how any couple can build a connection that stands the test of time: The Intimacy Pyramid. Starting with a foundation of honesty, we’ll explore how you can build safety and trust in your relationship, allowing for more vulnerability, which ultimately will lead to a deep intimacy you may have never thought possible. Building on professional and personal experiences, we’ll help you understand the levels of the pyramid and how to implement them into your relationship.”

I love how this book has a step by step definition followed by how we can build each block in our pyramid encouraging better success.
