Chainbreaker
Recently with all that has been going on I feel especially heavy in feeling a lack of control in really making an impact on what is happening around me.
I know that I am part of a genetic chain linked carrying good and bad from the generations and choices before me. I love this article “Are You A Chain-Breaker?” at d2td.org.
It explains how we are all chain breakers and God is the tool we use to break the link. “All you have to do is acknowledge that there are chains to be broken, align your heart and mind with the One who created you and walk it out daily. God knows we are not perfect but that doesn’t change the call He has placed on our lives.”
Our chains contain our beliefs, culture, religion, family systems, media, generational traumas and layers of baggage. There are strengths and sacrifices that also bind us together.
We are each born with Godly gifts and talents to help support and strengthen us. “Everyone is called to make a difference, no matter how big or small you think it is.”
I am thankful for those before me that had the courage to break chains and repair them in a stronger way. My parents broke chains choosing to show unconditional love to us children. They also demonstrated a healthy marriage for me to pattern after. I know this example is why I was so optimistic and unable to comprehend the betrayals within my own marriage. I was trying to pattern my marriage after what I knew even though I felt we mimicked more what he brought to our marriage.
I pray to recognize what changes I want to break in my life and how I can teach my children to also become chain breakers so we aren’t just a product of our negative history. I know by educating myself I become more empowered and that positively effects my posterity. I know that through God all things are possible. We can change abuse, trauma, shame, inequality, rejection, and family secrets into a freedom to shape who want to be while keeping and enhancing the strengths we already hold. This small act I choose to make in my life “breaths life into something that may otherwise remain dead.”
What strengths did you inherit that you can enhance? What weaknesses or burdens can we change or get rid of? How can you help those around you with your talents? What personal changes can we make that positively effect the society we live in?
