Those that know me know that I choose to enrich my home with things that have meaning. This even includes my Christmas decorations.

As we put them away at the end of the season my heart bursts at the plaid theme we picked this year and how it represents our woven and blended family.

Each of the colored lines run parallel to each other symbolic of each of us as we live our individual experiences in life. I love how our singular uniqueness makes a beautiful group family pattern.

Through the divorce I wanted to pile all my kids on my back to carry them through the hardships they were enduring or about to face and run towards the feet of Christ as if we had made it all together. But I quickly learned that life doesn’t work that way. I can’t save or protect them from all the pain as much as I want to. And now I know as we each stay in our individual lanes that we can encourage each other in our separate shared journey each getting to the feet of Christ in our own way.

I love being able to recognize already all that each individual brings to our home that makes it extra special. I love our family and the growth we have each had. I love what I learn from them and how I admire each of them too. I love that they enhance my daily life just because I have them in my life. I am blessed by all their spiritual gifts and talents and I love that as parents we get to be our kids biggest fans.

What amazing blessings have you had in blending your family?
