“Sound of Freedom” by Angel Studios
My book club recommendation for July is a movie. It’s called “Sound of Freedom” by Angel Studios.
I love how we are getting more educated on the magnitude and weight of human trafficking of all ages. My logo is blue to represent the universal color of human trafficking prevention.
I knew I needed a lot of courage to go and watch this movie. I was already teary in the previews. I also knew it would be triggering, so I did my best to buffer and be prepared.
As hard as I tried to prevent it being personal at the movie, I remembered a comment he said to me after my big D-day. He said. “They are just like you. They just come from different circumstances. I am paying them to give them an opportunity to live a better life.”
I tried to see it the way he did yet I was more stunned this was something he actually said and believed I would accept. This felt so wrong, manipulative and a perverted way to justify his behavior as if it was something honorable.
It stuck with me though and In my process of discoveries I communicated with girls where I got their contacts from his phone. I had so much conflict in me and I hurt so much for these girls wondering., “What is their story and why are they in the situation they are doing what they do?”
One that I communicated with had moments of real life with me and I genuinely felt for her compartmentalizing even her ethics in her personal life and her “job.”
I have now been in therapy group sessions, trainings and addict recovery meetings with former strippers and prostitutes. They absolutely have a heart breaking story to tell and I pray for them and applaud their hard work in healing.
We are all children of God. Even the abusers and the offenders. I’m just thankful God gets to sort that out and because of the Atonement, Christ gets to advocate for them because He knows their whole story.
In all of the sorrow and as we shed more attention on the suffering, I am thankful to know that Christ is always with us. Even when we believe He has abandoned us.
There is hope in the natural goodness of people and the efforts we do to act and be strong standing up for what we feel is wrong. You are a warrior!
