My December Book Club recommendation is “The Mountain Is You” by Brianna Wiest. I got this from my yoga instructor after she shared some of the quotes in my class.

“The Mountain Is You” is a transformative read about turning self-sabotage into self-mastery. It’s gentle but powerful in helping you face the habits and fears holding you back. If you’re ready to look inward and grow, this book feels like a wise conversation with your truest self.

Some of my favorite quotes are:

“Self-sabotage is when you have two conflicting desires: one is conscious, the other is subconscious.”

“The mountain is not in the way. The mountain is the way.”

“Your new life is going to cost you your old one.”

“You are not meant to be understood by everyone.”

“So, don’t tell yourself to let go.

Instead, tell yourself that you can cry for as long as you need. That you can fall to pieces and be a mess and let your life collapse and crumble. Tell yourself that you can let your foundation fall through.

What you will realize is that you are still standing.

What you will build in the week and the aftermath of loss will be so profound, so stunning, you will realize that maybe the loss was part of the plan. Maybe it awakened a part of you that would have remained dormant had you not been pushed the way you were.”

I love the beautiful reminder that growth often feels hard, but it’s exactly what shapes who we become. That is the point of the mountain.
