I used to pray so hard for a life I no longer want. 🤍

Mark and I went to a Garth Brooks concert when we were dating and he sang played “Unanswered Prayers.” I’ve heard that song many times throughout my life, but this time, it hit me straight in the soul.

I thought about all the prayers I prayed during one of the darkest seasons of my life.

I prayed for him to fight for me. To choose me. I prayed for the pain to disappear, for the truth to somehow be undone, and for this not to be my life.

At the time, I couldn’t imagine a future that looked different from the one I was desperately trying to save.

But today, I look at my life and feel a kind of gratitude I couldn’t have understood back then.

I’m grateful for the people who stood beside me when I could barely stand on my own. I’m grateful for the love and connection I’ve found. I’m grateful that the pain I thought would break me has given me a deeper understanding of others who are walking through their own heartbreak.

And I’m grateful that my story didn’t end in that dark place.

I don’t believe we have to be thankful for the hurt itself, or pretend we understand why everything happened. But I do believe God can lead us toward a life we couldn’t yet see when we were in the middle of the pain.

Sometimes what we pray for isn’t what we ultimately need. Sometimes the answer unfolds in ways we never expected, and it takes time to understand.

Today, I love my life. I love being here. And I love that I can use my experiences to help someone else believe there is hope beyond what they’re going through right now.

If you’re still in the middle of the heartbreak, you don’t have to see the whole path today. Just know that the chapter you’re living right now doesn’t have to be the end of your story. 🤍🦋

What unanswered prayer are you thankful for now?
